Yodoyabashi
This bridge spans the Tosabori River, and is dotted with famous modern buildings such as the Bank of Japan Osaka Branch, the Nakanoshima Prefectural Library, and the Central Public Hall. The first bridge was built during the Edo period by Yodoya, the largest lumber merchant in Japan at the time, and was approximately 65m long and 4m wide. The bridge was named after the Yodoya. It is said that the Yodoya family made a great contribution to the creation of the Dojima Rice Market, Tenma Vegetable Market, and even the Zakoba Fish Market, but in 1705, they were suddenly deported. There is a history of families being cut off. The bridge at that time was washed away by a major flood in 1885. The current bridge was completed in 1935 after a design competition was held as part of the first urban planning project that began in 1922. Due to its excellent design and harmony with the surrounding environment, it was named the most attractive bridge for citizens in a survey conducted by Osaka City regarding bridges. 70,000 people and 60,000 cars pass over the bridge every day.
