Suisho Bridge

Originally built as a movable weir on the Dojima River, it is now a pedestrian-only bridge with plants and benches installed.

Suisho Bridge was built as a movable weir on the Dojima River in 1929 for the purpose of river purification. In 1982, more than 50 years after its construction, the bridge became noticeably dirty and damaged, so renovations were carried out, giving it a appearance worthy of the name "Suishobashi." The combination of the main arch and the nine small arches above it gives a feeling of lightness despite its solidity, and the bridge has plants and benches installed to create a spacious space. Along the river is a group of modern buildings that represent Osaka, such as the Osaka City Central Public Hall and the Nakanoshima Prefectural Library, making it a great place for a stroll. There are various theories about the origin of the bridge's name, including the fact that the lights on the bridge reflect on the water surface, resembling the sparkle of crystal, or that it is a prayer for the prosperity of Osaka, the aquatic capital. During the day, you can often see people painting the bridge, and at night it is beautifully lit up.
