Shibakawa Building
At the time of its completion, there were still many Japanese-style wooden buildings, and at a time when Japanese-style architecture was prized, the Shibakawa Building was constructed of reinforced concrete with South American Mayan and Incan decorations. Before building the Western-style building, the roof was made of wood and the walls were simply covered with copper, so Matashiro, sensing a fire safety issue, replaced the building with reinforced concrete, which has excellent earthquake and fire resistance. At the time of its completion, it was planned to be used for private purposes, but as Matashiro, who was interested in education, had some spare time, it was used as a bridal school, Shiransha Kasei Gakuen. From 1929 until its closure in 1943, this school had approximately 3,000 young ladies who graduated from prestigious girls' schools in the Kansai region, known as "Ito-san." It is also said to be the beginning of women's junior colleges. Currently, events are held irregularly on the rooftop terrace, and there are also various food and beverage shops that cater to the picky tastes of Osaka people. It is attracting a lot of attention as a building that is challenging new possibilities.
