Ryotaro Shiba Memorial Museum
A memorial museum that conveys the spirit of writer Ryotaro Shiba to future generations. The study where he wrote his work and his collection of 20,000 books are on display.
This facility opened in 2001 to convey the spirit of the writer Shiba Ryotaro, who published many works including "Ryoma ga Yuku" and "Kaido wo Yuku" and passed away suddenly in 1996. On a site of approximately 2,600 square meters, Shiba's home and the memorial hall designed by Ando Tadao are located next to each other. Passing through the main gate, you will find a small, wooded garden and through the window you can see his study, which has been preserved exactly as it was when he was writing. The entire 11-meter-high wall of the memorial hall is made up of bookshelves, with approximately 20,000 books lined up. In the hall, films of Shiba from his younger days are screened and lectures and rakugo performances are also held. In addition, twice a year, special exhibitions related to Shiba's works are held.
