Nozaki Kannon (Jigenji Temple)
The nearest temple from Osaka, "Nozakimiri", is a temple where you can practice zazen meditation and copy sutras.
It is a Zen temple of the Soto sect, whose principal image is Eleven-faced Kanzeon Bodhisattva (mid-Heian period). It was founded by Gyoki Bosatsu and has been worshiped by the people of Osaka since ancient times. The principal image is carved from a single piece of sandalwood, approximately 130cm tall, and stands on a pedestal surrounded by a dragon. It has also appeared as a stage for joruri, kabuki, and rakugo, and became widely known throughout the country with Rintaro Tokai's hit song ``Nozaki Kouta'' in the early Showa era. The gate is always open and anyone can visit Kannon. Located at the foot of the mountains to the east of the Osaka Plain, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the city.
