*The Museum of Oriental Ceramics, Osaka will be closed indefinitely from February 7, 2022 due to construction to expand the entrance. The reopening is scheduled for spring 2024.
Located in a corner of Nakanoshima Park, this museum was established by Osaka City to commemorate the donation of the world-famous Ataka Collection by 21 Sumitomo Group companies, and opened in November 1982. Later, a large collection of Korean and Chinese ceramics was donated by Dr. Lee Byung-Chang, a Korean resident of Japan, and the museum continues to this day. The museum's 5,691 items, including two National Treasures, a Yuteki Tenmoku tea bowl and a Tobi Celadon flower vase, and 13 Important Cultural Properties, such as the Blue Flower Lotus Pond Fish and Algae Design Vase, make this one of the world's best collections of Oriental ceramics. In the exhibition room, which makes use of natural lighting, you can see beautiful ceramics bathed in soft sunlight. In addition to the collection exhibition, various special exhibitions are also held.
