Midosuji Sculpture Street
Sculptures by famous domestic and international artists are displayed along Midosuji, Osaka's main street. It entertains passersby as an easy way to appreciate art.
Midosuji, Osaka's main street, is approximately 4km long, connecting Umeda to Namba. It opened in 1937 with an eye on Osaka's development over the next 100 years. From the beginning, the street has attracted attention as a main street with a beautiful view, with all power lines placed underground, approximately 800 ginkgo trees planted, and the skyline of surrounding buildings limited to no more than 30 meters. Currently, the skyline of the building has been reduced to 50 meters, and commercial facilities and office buildings are lined up. In particular, the area around Minami is vibrant, with the Shinsaibashi-suji and Ebisubashi-suji downtown areas running parallel to the north and south to the east, and the checkerboard-like business districts and fashion districts such as Minamisenba and Amerikamura intersecting to the east and west. In recent years, 29 sculptures by famous domestic and foreign artists, including Henry Moore, Auguste Rodin (of ``The Thinker'' fame), and Kotaro Takamura have been displayed along Midosuji Street, entertaining passersby.
