Dark mountain pass (Kuragaritouge)
A mountain pass in the dark that Basho also wrote about.
This has been the shortest route between Osaka and Nara since the Nara period. It is said that when Matsuo Basho passed by, the chrysanthemums were in full bloom. ``Perhaps it's a festival where you climb up in the scent of chrysanthemums.'' From here, Basho fled to Osaka and died at Yodoyabashi Bridge. During the Edo period, it developed as a route for pilgrims to Ise.
