Kotokuji Temple
This is a historic temple that is the origin of the name of Karutaobata, and belongs to the Otani sect of Shinshu Buddhism, and its principal image is Amida Nyorai.
In 988, during the Heian period, the 64th Cloistered Emperor Enyu ordered the priest Hoen of Enryaku-ji Temple to establish the Imperial Vowsho, ``Higashihirozan Shoyoho-ji Temple.'' However, it was burnt down during the Battle of Nanto Hokurei, leaving only Karindo Ichiu. Later, the monk Shunen of Onjo-ji Temple (Mii-dera Temple) visited this place and worshiped the main image of Amitabha Nyorai in Ganrin-do Hall. He received the imperial title of ``Yozan Kotokuji Temple.'' Furthermore, Shunen entered Senshu Nenbutsumon and became a disciple of Shinran Shonin, calling himself ``Butsu Nenbo Shinjo.'' The current main hall is about 250 years old, and the Sanmon gate is about 270 years old. It is said that the place name Karindo Obata comes from Ganrindo.
