Ikoma Building
About a two-minute walk south from Kitahama Station on the Osaka Metro Sakaisuji Line or Keihan Electric Railway, the stately Ikoma Watch Shop's head office building was built in 1930 and is one of the most famous modern buildings in the area. Designed by Soheizo, who also designed Sakaisuji Nambabashi Bridge and Shibajima Water Purification Plant, the building's eye-catching features include the clock tower on the roof, bay and round windows with pendulum designs, and eagle sculptures in seven locations, including two entrances and five show windows. The Italian marble staircase in front of the entrance, stained glass, and scratch tile walls (hand-scraped vertical striped tiles) also exude a sense of history. Tours are available during business hours. The building is designated as a national registered tangible cultural property.
