Hyōtanzan Inari Shrine
It is one of the three great Inari shrines in Japan, with its shrine built on the double-circular burial mound of the Hyotanyama Kofun. It is also famous as the head shrine of the rare "tsujiura" fortune-telling temple. It enshrines Ukemochi no Okami, who is in charge of business prosperity, good relationships, and general well-being.
The shrine is built on the gourd-shaped "Hyotanyama Kofun" and is one of the three great Inari shrines in Japan, where Ukemochi no Okami is enshrined. It is also famous as the head shrine of "Tsujiura", a rare type of fortune-telling in Japan. Also known as "Love Fortune-telling", there are three types of fortune-telling: "Tsujiura Hanja", where you look at passers-by, "Tsujiura Omikuji", where you use fire to tell your fortune, and "Tsujiura Hyotan Sasa", which is also the basis for fortune cookies. According to the shrine's legend, the origin of the shrine is when Toyotomi Hideyoshi built Osaka Castle in 1583, in a sacred place three ri away in the auspicious direction of Tatsumi, he enshrined "Fukube (Hyotan) Inari" as the guardian deity and enshrined it together with Kinbyou. The enshrined deity, Ukemochi-no-Okami, is a god who protects and helps the lives of all people, not only by bringing prosperity to business, but also by ensuring an abundance of food and life in general. In addition, within the grounds, there are also shrines dedicated to Sugawara Shrine, the god of learning, and other gods who bring various benefits, and various prayers are held, as well as prayers for naming newborns and companies, and prayers for safe childbirth and child-bearing.
