Hokonagashi Bridge
It is a bridge that spans the Dojima River, and every year on the morning of July 24th, the Hokoryu Shinto ritual, one of the events of the Tenjin Festival, is held at the foot of the bridge.
This bridge spans the Dojima River and connects the north bank of Nakanoshima (near the Osaka City Central Public Hall and the Museum of Oriental Ceramics) and Nishitenma (near the Osaka High Court). Every year on the morning of July 24th, the ``Hokoryu Shinto ritual'' of the Tenjin Festival is held at the foot of the bridge (an event in which sacred hoko floats are floated down the river to determine where the sacred spirits will be passed to and from which to travel that year). Apparently it has a name. The first bridge is said to have been built in 1918, but the current bridge was completed in 1929. The adoption of a classic Japanese-style design such as the balustrades, lighting lights, and main pillars is thought to have taken into account the fact that the Hoko-ryu Shinto ritual of the Tenjin Festival would be held there. Later, these railings and lights were lost due to the supply of metal during the war, but in 1980, classic design railings, lights, and brick-paved sidewalks that matched the Nakanoshima area were rebuilt. and continues to this day. During the approximately 40-minute period on July 24th when the Hokoryu Shinto Ritual is held, this usually quiet bridge is filled with onlookers from above.
