Higo Bridge

This is an ancient bridge that spans the Tosabori River, and there was once a storehouse of the Higo and Kumamoto clans at its north end.

Higo Bridge spans the Tosabori River and connects Nishi Ward and Nakanoshima. There used to be a warehouse for the Higo and Kumamoto clans (warehouses built in Osaka by feudal lords to pay annual tax rice, etc.) on Nakanoshima at the north end of the bridge. In the ``Shinban Osaka no Zu'' written in 1657, it is written as ``Higodonobashi''. It was originally a wooden bridge, but it was washed away by a flood, and in 1881, along with Watanabe Bridge, it was replaced with an iron bridge imported from England, and in 1926, it was replaced with a luxurious concrete bridge in the Spanish Renaissance style. Since then, the bridge has been rebuilt twice. The current bridge was renovated in 1994. Higobashi Bridge, which has been revived many times in the changing times, still has a lively appearance with people and cars coming and going.
