Sanada Yukimura and Osaka no Jin Course

We will introduce you to the many places where Yukimura Sanada, who faced off against Ieyasu in the ``Osaka Siege'' that took place twice in winter and summer, fought with great courage and met a spectacular end.

This is where Tokugawa Ieyasu and Sanada Yukimura established their headquarters during the winter and summer camps, respectively. It was originally a keyhole-shaped tumulus, and to the south there is Kautei Pond, which retains the remains of a surrounding moat.

Isshinji Temple
Founder of Honen. It is famous for its bone Buddha statues, which are made from the bones of Amitabha Buddha. The main gate, the main gate, is called the Kuromon, and it is said that the Tamazukuri Gomon of Osaka Castle was relocated there, but it was destroyed in the war. There is also the grave of Tadatomo Honda, who died in the Osaka Summer Siege.

Yasui Shrine
It is said to be the place where Sanada Yukimura met his end during the Osaka Natsu Siege, and a stone monument has been erected here. In addition, the ``Sanada Pine'' (second generation), where Yukimura is said to have rested, remains.

Hayato Usuda, a military commander on the Toyotomi side who was active in the Osaka Siege, died here, and his grave has been erected here. Hayato Usuda is also known as ``Iwami Jutaro''.

Enjuan (Kamahachiman)
It is said that during the Winter Siege of Osaka, Yukimura Sanada drove his sickle into the sacred tree to pray for victory, and was able to achieve a great victory with Sanada Maru, and it became popular as a sacred tree that prayed for victory.

Shinganji Temple
This temple was built in the Edo period by the Shigeno clan, the ancestors of the Sanada family, as a memorial service for Yukimura Sanada and his son Daisuke. It is located on the west side of Zaisoyama Park, and the temples continue south from Shinganji Temple.

Sanko Shrine
It is said to be the site of Sanada Maru, a castle built by Yukimura Sanada during the Osaka Winter Siege. In the precincts, there is also the ``Sanada loophole'' that Yukimura is said to have dug, as well as a statue.

Tamatsukuri Inari Shrine
This is an old shrine that was worshiped as the guardian of Osaka Castle, and the stone torii gate donated by Toyotomi Hideyori still remains within the shrine grounds. The museum also exhibits materials related to the ancient Tamatsukuribu. (Reservation required)

Etsunakai
It is said that Mrs. Hosokawa Garasha, the wife of Hosokawa Etakamori Tadaoki, refused to be taken hostage by Mitsunari Ishida and died here. Nearby St. Mary's Cathedral has a statue of her.

Osaka Castle
The castle tower, built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi and burnt down during Hideyori's ``Osaka Summer Siege'', was rebuilt by the Tokugawa shogunate, but was later destroyed by lightning again. The current castle tower was completed in 1994 with donations from citizens.
