Kita: From the Ground & the Sky
Kita, the main entrance to Osaka, is home to JR Osaka Station, Osaka Metro, and private railway Umeda Station, and is changing year by year. In addition to high-rise hotels, business buildings, and department stores, large-scale retail stores, theaters, and branded shop buildings have opened in recent years, increasing the area's glamor. Of course, the neon-lit Kitashinchi, the popular drinking district, and the huge underground mall are still alive and well. First, you can get a bird's-eye view of the city of Kita from the Hanging Garden, which is 173 meters above the ground. Let's walk around Kita from the air and land.

Ohatsu Tenjin (Outdoor Shrine/Tsuyutenjinja)
If you go south from Higashi-dori shopping street to Ohatsu Tenjin-dori shopping street, you will find an open-air shrine in the valley between the buildings. Chikamatsu Monzaemon performs the Joruri play ``Sonezaki Shinju'' based on the incident in which Ohatsu, a prostitute from Dojima Shinchi Tenmaya, and Tokubei, a handmaiden from Uchihonmachi Hiranoya, died of passion here in Tenjin no Mori. Since then, this shrine has come to be called ``Ohatsu Tenjin''. There is a stone statue of Ohatsu Tokubei in the precincts, and there are also scenes of couples praying for marriage in hopes of finding love with Ohatsu.
