Xavier Park
A park that conveys the bond between Francisco Xavier and a wealthy Sakai merchant in the medieval period.
A park full of greenery in front of Hanadaguchi Station on Osaka's only streetcar, the Hankai Electric Tramway, which is located right next to the Sakai exit of the Hanshin Expressway No. 15 Sakai Line. When Jesuit missionary Francisco Xavier visited Sakai in 1550, it is said that Ryokei Hibiya, a wealthy Sakai merchant, treated him warmly. In honor of this, in 1949, to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Xavier's arrival, the park built on the site of Ryokei's mansion was named ``Xavier Park.'' The park is filled with large phoenix trees that give it a tropical feel, while the cherry blossoms in the spring and the autumn leaves are beautiful in the fall, making it a relaxing spot for local residents.
