Tokai Nature Trail

Walk in nature for a total distance of 1,697 km. Japan's first long-distance nature trail connects one metropolis, two cities and eight prefectures from Minoh to Tokyo.

Opened in 1974, this is Japan's first long-distance nature trail, linking Tokyo's Meiji-no-Mori Takao Quasi-National Park and Osaka's Meiji-no-Mori Minoh Quasi-National Park, and connecting Tokyo, two metropolitan areas, and eight prefectures. The 1,697km long route has been developed to allow hiking to be enjoyed throughout the four seasons while protecting the natural environment. The route winds through the beautiful Hokusetsu mountain range, dotted with scenic spots and historical sites. From families to hardy walkers, you can walk at your own pace while enjoying the nature and history. Starting with the Tokaido Nature Trail, eight nature trails have been developed in Kyushu, Chugoku, Shikoku, the Tokyo metropolitan area, Tohoku, Chubu Hokuriku, and Kinki, with a total length of approximately 21,000km at present. It is loved by over 40 million people a year.
