Tajihayahime Shrine, adjacent to Arayama Park, which is famous for its plum grove, was built around 580 and is dedicated to Tajihayahime no Mikoto. The deities enshrined here include Susanoo no Mikoto, and Michizane Sugawara, known as the god of learning. Since Tajisahime-no-Mikoto is a goddess, it is said to be beneficial for safe childbirth, marriage, and warding off evil. The main shrine, which was rebuilt in 1541, is decorated with various carvings and colors, including dragons, clouds, waves, mantises, seaweed, and shellfish. It is extremely valuable as one of the buildings that pioneered the architectural style of the Azuchi-Momoyama period, which developed rapidly (National Important Cultural Property/reservations required to tour). In addition, within the shrine grounds, you can enjoy seasonal scenery such as plum blossoms, cherry blossoms, fresh greenery, and autumn leaves. At the annual autumn festival in October, five danjiri floats and two children's mikoshi danjiri floats are heroically pulled through the city.
