Suitoren Ruins Park

Look for the large egg-shaped monument. Experience the lives of people in the Paleolithic period 20,000 years ago and how Paleolithic tools were made.

The Suichoen Ruins are a 20,000-year-old stone tool-making studio that was discovered in 1992, almost in the center of Habikino City, during an excavation survey. More than 30 stone tool-making sites have been found at the site, along with approximately 20,000 stone tools and stone fragments made from sanukite, a type of stone that is easy to work with. In 1998, the site was developed into a park, and an observation terrace and an educational facility with videos and exhibits introduce the conditions of the area 20,000 years ago. At the entrance to the park stands a large, sliced egg-shaped monument themed on the sanukite that was broken to make stone tools. It is said that when you enter, the mysterious sound of sanukite resonates. "Photo provided by Habikino City Board of Education."
