Shorenji Temple

In ancient times, it was one of the 25 temples in Osaka. Kawase Gaki, which is held on August 26th every year, is designated as an intangible folk cultural property of Osaka City.
This is a Nichiren sect temple located on the north bank of the Shorenji River, into which the Nakatsu River flows. It began in 1625 when Shoren Nichiho built a small hermitage, and in ancient times it had a Shichido temple and was counted as one of the 25 temples in Osaka, but it was destroyed due to a fire and an earthquake. The current main hall dates from 1874. At Kawasegaki, which is held on August 26th every year, five-colored streamers and Gendaiki flags are erected, as well as a mikoshi containing a standing statue of Nichiren Saint and numerous Buddhist scriptures. The flotilla carrying the sacred stone proceeds from the Denpo water gate to the Yodogawa River, where the doshi chants sutras and the mourners float the sutra down the river. This is a Buddhist ritual in which one prays for the fulfillment of Buddhist training by offering food and drink (onjiki) to the unrelated spirits who are suffering from hunger and thirst in the path of hungry demons. Says. Started in 1721, it is one of Japan's three major Segaki rituals and has been designated as an Osaka City Intangible Folk Cultural Property.
