Shirasagi Park Iris Garden

Sakai City's flower, the Japanese iris, has about 10,000 plants of 100 different varieties. White, purple, yellow... the simple flowers beautifully decorate the cloudy skies of the rainy season.

Shirasagi Park, located in Higashi-ku, Sakai City, has a land area of approximately 90,000 square meters. The vast park includes a sports field, a baseball field, and a playground, and is used by a wide range of people, from children to the elderly, as a place for sports and recreation. In 1989, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the municipalization of Sakai City, the Japanese iris was selected as the city's flower by a vote of citizens, and an Japanese iris garden was established in the park. It has now become widely known as a famous flower spot. Every year from late May to early June, the Japanese irises bloom in an area of approximately 2,000 square meters, including the landscaped pond in the park, and 10,000 plants of approximately 100 species, including Higo, Edo, and Ise varieties, are planted. The bright flowers in white, purple, yellow, and pink bloom gracefully, delighting the eyes of visitors.
