Sennichimae Doguyasuji Shopping Street
A 150 meter long shopping street lined with specialty stores with every cooking utensil and kitchen item available. The Doguyasuji Festival on October 9 (Tool Day) is an event where various tools are on sale, and where the Garapon Lottery will also be held. In addition, you can take part in hands-on food sample making and glass-etching experiences, as well as an ever-increasing number of artisanal restaurants.
The current Sennichimae Doguyasuji Shopping Street is lined with specialty stores of all kinds of cooking utensils and kitchen items. Osaka has long-since been called the "Kitchen of the world" where a great numbers of skillful chefs come to work. Congregating in the shopping street, the stores are featuring tools that can maximize chefs' expertise. Being a pilgrimage trail to worship the Odaishi monk of Shitennoji and Imaebisu Shrine from Sennnichimae of Hozenji Temple in 1882, it started as a street that is surrounded with antique and sundries stores. Entering the Taisho period, the stores were generally developing to become wholesale stores and specialty stores of manufacturing. Eventually, the arcade was built in 1970 after the war, forming the current 150 meter-long shopping street. On October 9 , the "Tool Day," the "Doguyasuji Festival" is held with the Garapon Lottery that offers ¥500 shopping coupons, which is being especially popular. Another popular staple is their "Springtime Tool Market" held in January 10 to respect "Ebessan," otherwise known as the Imamiya Ebisu Shrine. Recently, this shopping street has become a fun place to shop, see, and eat, with its ever-increasing numbers of restaurants and hands-on food sample making and glass-etching experiences.
