Senkoji Temple
Senkoji Temple and the graves of the Okabe family
This is the family temple of the Okabe family, the lords of Kishiwada Castle in Izumi Province. When the first lord of Kishiwada Castle, Okabe Minokami Yoshikatsu, got old, he built a villa on this land and used it as a retirement residence, but according to his will, he buried his remains here, and also made the residence into a temple and the family home of the Okabe family for generations. This was in the year 1668 (Kanbun 8). After that, the temple came to be called Senkouji, taking the two characters from the Buddhist name of Lord Sensho, ``Senkoinden Tetsugaikaken Daikoji.''
