Sayama Pond

A history of over 1400 years. A flood control dam of approximately 400,000 square meters.

Sayama Pond has a long history. Research conducted during the Heisei era renovation revealed that it was built around 616 AD, approximately 1,400 years ago. In other words, this pond is an artificial pond built to secure water for agricultural use. It has a circumference of 3.4 kilometers and an area of ​​approximately 400,000 square meters. This pond has its current appearance thanks to the wisdom and ingenuity of each era. There is a record that Gyoki carried out repairs in 731 (Tenpyo 3). Afterwards, it was renovated by Chogen in the Kamakura period, and majorly restored by Katsumoto Katagiri in the Edo period. ) ~ 2002 (Heisei 14), major renovations were carried out by Osaka Prefecture. On March 28, 2001, the Sayama Pond Museum also opened. A friendly environment has been created where visitors can better understand the history of Sayama Pond.
