In the past, when water became scarce due to continued drought, farmers, who usually lived together in harmony, would end up fighting over water. However, when there was no water left to fight for and there was no way to get water, it is said that several nearby villages came together to pray for rain at Sannomiya Shrine. When it actually rained, I went to the shrine to give my thanks. The return event was even more grand than the rain-making event, and events such as return sumo, Noh Kyogen, and Sumiyoshi Odori were held in the shrine grounds. Additionally, many of the lanterns that still exist within the shrine grounds were dedicated to such people in return for praying for rain.
