A museum that collects, preserves, and exhibits materials related to Sakai City's history, art, archeology, and folklore. It was built in Daisen Park in 1980 to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the city's incorporation.
Sakai City, which is home to the World Cultural Heritage Mozu-Furuichi Tumulus Group, which includes the Emperor Nintoku Mausoleum, prospered as an autonomous and trading city run by powerful merchants called ``Kaishu'' in the Middle Ages. did. During the Edo period, the manufacturing of cutlery began using techniques cultivated through ancient traditions, and these manufacturing techniques are still used today for things such as bicycle manufacturing.
The permanent exhibition at the Sakai City Museum features exhibits that give you a sense of Sakai's long history, including artifacts from the Kofun period and matchlock guns that were often manufactured in Sakai. The pottery and Sue ware from the Kofun period, as well as the standing statue of Kannon Bodhisattva, are designated as national important cultural properties and are a must-see (sometimes you may not be able to see them due to changes in exhibits, etc.). You can also enjoy the Kofun Theater, which makes full use of CG, for free.
