Pass through the Sanmon gate and experience the Garan Sermon with all five senses. ``Mount Mt. Hoke, where the blessings of the Buddha of Tanigawa, which I have visited many times, are profound.''
In 733, Gyoki Bosatsu founded the temple at the request of Emperor Shomu. This is a Shingon sect temple where Oifu Fudo Myo-o, said to be the work of Kobo Daishi Kukai, is enshrined as the principal Buddha. The temple's treasures include the ``Taiko Hideyoshi Flesh Statue'' which Toyotomi Hideyoshi donated with his own beard, ``Toyokuni Daimyojin'', a calligraphy written by Hideyori when he was 8 years old, and ``Komainu'' by Hideyoshi's vassal Sorori Shinzaemon. In recent years, the precincts where natural slime mold scholar Minakata Kumagusu spent some time as a place of research is still today the ``Kazan of Buddhism,'' surrounded by moss and various trees and flowers throughout the year.
