Osaka Shochikuza
A wide variety of stage productions are performed here such as Kabuki and contemporary theater, revivals, musicals, concerts, etc.
Opening in 1923 as the first Western-style theater of Japan in Dotonbori, the downtown area of Minami, it celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2023. In 1997, while retaining its symbolic Neo-Renaissance-type great archway in the entrance, it was renovated and reopened as a theater specializing in stage plays with the latest equipment. A wide variety of stage productions are performed here such as Kabuki and contemporary theater, revivals, musicals, concerts, etc. The 1st floor of the building is the lobby, the 2nd floor a shop, and the 3rd through 5th floors being the theater halls. The red seating and the marble-based walls all come together to create a theatrical experience that is a departure from everyday life.
