Osaka Castle Nishinomaru Garden
A lush garden overlooking the castle tower across the moat. In the spring, 300 cherry blossom trees bloom and the area is crowded with cherry blossom viewing visitors.
In 1931, Osaka Castle Museum was rebuilt with donations of about 1.5 million yen (equivalent to about 75 billion yen today) from citizens. Osaka Castle Park, which spreads out around the main tower, contains 13 important cultural properties, such as the Otemon Gate, Sengan Yagura, and Enshogura, as well as the plum grove and Nishinomaru Garden. Nishinomaru Garden, which is said to have been the site of the residence of Toyotomi Hideyoshi's wife, Kita no Mandokoro, was opened in 1965 as a lawn garden of about 6.5 hectares. Surrounded by trees, the castle tower and the stone walls of the moat can be beautifully viewed. In spring, about 300 cherry trees, mainly Somei Yoshino, bloom in competition with each other, making it a famous cherry blossom viewing spot. Night cherry blossom viewing games are also held during the flowering period, attracting many visitors. In the northeast corner of Nishinomaru Garden, there is also a teahouse called "Hoshoan" donated by Matsushita Konosuke in 1969.
