The year of its founding is unknown, but it is an old shrine within the Engishiki area. Located in the former Ikaga Miyayama area, it is highly respected as a local deity and guardian of the Yodo River. It was built by sailors from ancient times to pray for safe passage and to eliminate flood damage. It is said that the Takaokami no Okami was enshrined within the residence of Irome no Mikoto. In the reference room of Igami Shrine, ``Sangaku,'' which are votive tablets for mathematics, are kept. This is an offering to pray for one's improvement as a mathematician through the blessings of the gods and Buddha. It is said that the mathematician Kiyotsune Iwata stayed in the area to recuperate from his illness, and in 1861, as a thank you for being cured of his illness, he dedicated it to Gozu Tenno Shrine, the predecessor of Suga Shrine. Additionally, there are approximately 110 plum trees on the grounds, making it famous as the ``Igami plum grove.''
