Mount Pom Pom
When you stomp your feet on the summit, you hear a "ponpon" sound. Experience nature on a hike, enjoying the rural landscape and the atmosphere of mountain temples.
Officially called Mt. Kamose, it is said that the mountain was given this fun name due to the "ponpon" sound that is made when you stomp your feet on the summit. Climb to the 678.8m summit and try it out for yourself. It is easily accessible, and the most common route is to take a bus from Takatsuki city and start walking from the Haratateishi or Kamimineyamaguchi bus stops. Visit Kamimineyama and Honzan-ji temple, which were founded by En no Gyoja, and then follow the Tokai Nature Trail to the summit. It is close to the border with Kyoto Prefecture, and from the summit you can see the mountains of Kyoto and Hokusetsu. After another 15 minutes, you will come to a fork in the road, so head towards Zenpo-ji temple. From Zenpo-ji temple, you can walk while admiring the tranquil rural scenery to the end of the road at the "Oshio" bus stop. The entire course is about 12km long.
