Shippozan Daifuku-in Mitsu-dera Temple
Founded in 744 by Gyoki, it is an esoteric Buddhist temple with many ancient Buddhist statues.
Mt. Shippozan was founded in 744 by the imperial order of Emperor Shomu, when Gyoki Bodhisattva built the main hall where the Eleven-faced Kanzeon Bodhisattva was enshrined. The current main hall, which survived the Osaka air raids during World War II, was rebuilt in 1808 at the end of the Tokugawa period, and is decorated with lacquer, gold leaf, and flower petal designs. Inside, the principal image, Eleven-faced Kanzeon Bodhisattva, is enshrined in the center, and eight Buddhas, including Yakushi Nyorai and Kobo Daishi, are enshrined on the sides. In addition, in Sennichimae, about a 10-minute walk southeast of Mitsu-dera Temple, there is Shorin-an (Mitsu-dera Sennichimae Cemetery), where the tombstones of famous merchants of Senba and Kamigata comedians, such as Yasui Doton, Sankatsu and Hanshichi's memorial tower, are located. Many are enshrined.
