Mount Nijo Manyo Forest
Formerly called "Futakamiyama" and now called "Nijozan," this park was developed at the foot of Mt. Nijo, which has two humps (Odake and Me-dake) lined up like a camel's back. On the Taishi-cho side of Osaka Prefecture, there are many historical sites such as the ruins of Shikadani Temple and a group of ancient tombs, making it ideal for a historical walk. On the southwest slope of the mountain, "Nijo Manyo Forest" spreads out, with garden paths and plazas surrounding the historical sites. On the route from the trailhead to Me-dake Summit Plaza, you can enjoy the flowers such as andromeda, camellias, and hydrangeas, which are also sung about in the Manyoshu. From Me-dake Summit Plaza, you can see the Osaka Plain in the distance, and on a clear day, Osaka Bay and the Akashi Strait, and on the Nara Prefecture side, you can see the serene Yamato Sanzan mountains of Mt. Unebi, Mt. Kagu, and Mt. Miminari. This spot is rich in Manyo romance and has been selected as one of the "100 Best Greens in Osaka."
