Maishima Craft Museum
A facility that tells the story of Namba Tsuyaki, which was created from seabed clay in Osaka Bay. A diverse pottery studio where everyone from beginners to professionals gather.
Osaka was called "Naniwa" in the old days, and is known as the birthplace of "Sue ware", the origin of Japanese pottery. Maishima Craft Museum opened in 1998 on an artificial island in Osaka. It widely introduces and conveys the techniques of "Nanatsu ware", which is made from the large amount of seabed clay that became unnecessary due to the construction of Kansai Airport. The main building is equipped with a practice room equipped with an electric and manual potter's wheel, a clay making room for making clay, a glazing room, an exhibition room, a climbing kiln and anagama kiln, etc. There are various production courses such as a three-month "General Workshop" for beginners, an "Intermediate Workshop" and "Research Workshop" for intermediate and above, and a "Nanatsu Workshop" where professional ceramic artists also study, so you can experience according to your purpose. At "Cafe Maido" inside the building, you can enjoy drinks, light meals and sweets in original pottery.
