Osaka Regional Environmental Facilities Association Maishima Factory
A state-of-the-art incineration plant with an eye-catching colorful exterior. Free tours are available as a place to think about environmental protection and coexistence with nature.
This incineration plant, which is run by the Osaka City, Yao City, and Matsubara City Environmental Facilities Association, has a garbage incineration facility and a bulky garbage crushing facility, and anyone can tour it for free if they make a reservation. The innovative and colorful building design, which can be seen from far away, was designed by Viennese artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser, who is also famous for his environmentally friendly architecture. Plants grow branches and leaves on the roof, near the windows, and around the building, making the entire building one with the greenery. In the future, plans are being made for the entire area to become a verdant forest, with fruit-bearing trees and a biotope pond to provide a habitat for birds and insects. Many people come from all over the world to see the functions of the latest pollution prevention facilities and the facilities that coexist with the environment.
