Matsuyama Kichijoji (Temple of the Gishi)
This is the family temple of the Asano family in Osaka, where the tombs of Takumi Asano, known for the Chushingura, and the 47 Gishi are located. Commonly known as Gishi Temple, the Osaka Gishi Festival is held on the second Sunday of December every year.
It is a Zen Soto sect temple founded in the 7th year of Kanei. It is said that Takuminokami Asano gave Kichijoji the mountain name ``Matsuyama'' and made it his spiritual place, visiting it whenever he had a chance. The existing tombstone contains hair and chain mail, and the Asano main family requested the erection of a tombstone for Takumi no Kami, and Kichiemon Terasaka, who received a secret order from Kuranosuke Oishi, commissioned a monument to commemorate the spirits of the righteous warriors and erected it. It was done. Although the hall, pagoda, wooden statues of giastic warriors, and personal mementoes were all burnt to ashes due to a major air raid near the end of the war, the 47 stone statues of gishi and the stone statue of Kuranosuke Oishi have been newly enshrined. The Osaka Gishi Festival is held on the second Sunday of December, and it is a lively day with a childhood procession, martial arts offerings, taiko drums, Tsugaru shamisen, rakugo, field performances, soba noodles, and more.
