Gofusou

This historic building in Kishiwada has a beautiful garden that is a must-see.

After the Meiji Restoration, Rikichi Terada spent 10 years building this mansion, which was built on the site of the new tea house of the Okabe clan, the former lords of Kishiwada Castle, and was renamed Gofusou in 1950. The dignified building has a magnificent main building, three tea rooms, and an elegant strolling garden. The tea room is said to have been designed by Sosho Kizu, and the Santei in particular has a beautifully shaped natural stone as its foundation stone, on which the tea room is built. The main residence, which is a collection of the best of Japanese architecture, overlooks a splendid garden, and its layout, with its calming pond, elegantly shaped mountain bower, and snow-viewing lanterns, has a mysterious and soothing effect on the viewer.
