Kishiki Shrine

He is enshrined on the east side of Kishiwada Castle's castle tower, and is the guardian deity of the castle, as well as the sacred place of the Kishiwada Danjiri Festival.

Kishiki Shrine is located on the east side of Kishiwada Castle's castle tower and is the guardian deity of the castle, as well as the sacred place for the Kishiwada Danjiri Festival. It is said that the Shinmeisha was originally built by local farmers to pray for a rich harvest, but about 650 years ago, the Susa-no-no-mikoto statue was solicited from Yasaka Shrine in Kyoto. Since then, it has been called Gozutennousha and has prospered as a local guardian deity. Later, during the Keicho era, when Hideyoshi's vassal Hidemasa Koide made major renovations to Kishiwada Castle, Hachiman Okami was enshrined there, and since then it has been deeply worshiped by successive generations of castle owners and residents. With the Meiji Restoration, parishioners expanded to a wider area and the name was changed to "Kishiki Shrine," and the current shrine building was completed in August 2008 with the blessings of the parishioners. Since Kishiwada Castle was called Chikiri Castle, many people visit the shrine as the god of matchmaking. The famous Kishiwada Danjiri Festival is an annual festival of this shrine.
