Kanayama Tumulus
A rare gourd-shaped tomb.
This ``Kanayama Tumulus'' has a rare ``gourd-shaped'' shape. In other words, it is a double round tomb shaped like a gourd. Among the gourd-shaped tombs discovered up to the year 2000, it is the largest in Japan, and is thought to have been built between the 6th and 7th centuries based on the style of the sarcophagus and burial goods. In the mound on the north side, a horizontal stone chamber can be seen, in which two house-shaped sarcophagi are enshrined. The area around the tumulus has been maintained as a historical park and is popular as a place of relaxation.
