Senri Tenjin (Kamishinden Tenjin Shrine)
The guardian deity of Senri. The main deity is Tenjin-sama (Michizane Sugawara), the god of academics, and in the co-shrine is Inari-okami, the god of business prosperity.
Although it is located in Senri Chuo, a sub-center of Osaka, the temple grounds are surrounded by lush trees, making it a place of healing for the residents of Hokusetsu.
In the mid-Edo period, the central area of Senri Hills was widely cultivated as direct territory of the shogunate, and the accompanying opening up of villages led to the establishment of the shrine as the guardian deity of Senri. The main hall, a wooden one-ken Nagare-zukuri style building rebuilt in 1686, is decorated in vivid colors, and has a karahafu roof on the front, which is made entirely of persimmon, and it has been designated an Important Tangible Cultural Property of the city. The New Year's Festival is held from January 1st to 3rd, and the shrine, located in the center of Hokusetsu, is crowded with worshippers from all over northern Osaka. There are also many cultural events, and the shrine grounds are regularly and irregularly hosting votive musical performances, votive entertainment, and video streaming.
