Iwayuji Temple

This ancient temple is located halfway up Mt. Wakuyama in a forest of old cedar trees that are about 400 years old, and the area is one of the ``100 best green areas in Osaka.''
Iwawakiji Temple stands on the steep side of Mt. Iwawaki (altitude 500m), surrounded by 400-year-old giant cedar trees. The name ``Iwayu'' is said to have come from the landscape of high rocky areas that rise up like a spring, and is known as a sacred place for the Katsuragi Shugen Shugen, which is practiced in the Izumi Mountains and the Kongo Mountains. According to the temple's legend, it was founded by En Kozumi at the behest of Emperor Bunmu, and was originally a Tendai sect temple, but was converted to the Yuzu Nenbutsu sect during the Meiji period. The Tahoto Pagoda, built during the Sengoku period, enshrines the principal image of Vajra Dainichi Nyorai, a seated statue created at the end of the Heian period, and both are important cultural properties. In the precincts, which are rich in nature, you can enjoy seasonal wildflowers such as shuukaido (flowers are best viewed from September 1st to 15th), stone camphor flowers, and seasonal wildflowers.
