Hodoji temple

It was founded at the imperial request of Emperor Tenji. Both the Tahoto Pagoda and the Jikido restaurant on the grounds are important cultural properties of the country. Additionally, the Kongo Rikishi statue at the middle gate is a cultural property designated by Sakai City.
A Hodo hermit who visited from Tenjiku (present-day India) performed Hibachi Dharma there, and his miraculous experience reached Emperor Tenji at the time. For this reason, it was founded as Shizutani-in Chofuku-ji Temple in the 9th year of Emperor Tenji (670). Mt. Hachizuka is the origin of the name of the place Hachigamine, which is the mountain that housed the pot used for the Hibachi performed by Hodō Sennin. The name of the temple "Hodo-ji" came from the fact that the eldest son of the 8th Tokugawa Shogun Yoshimune (later the 9th Ieshige) was named Nagatomimaru. It was renamed Hodoji Temple. The dining halls of the Kamakura period had a simple structure, and there are only two examples of them in Osaka Prefecture. The Tahoto pagoda of the Nanbokucho period has a Chinese-style upper layer and a Japanese-style lower layer, and the upper layer has a carved wooden structure called shochi-hijiki, which is considered to be the oldest example.
