Hamadera Park Rose Garden
One of Osaka's oldest prefectural parks. The rose garden has 6,000 roses of approximately 500 species, including rare Japanese native species.
Hamadera Park is one of Osaka's oldest prefectural parks, established in 1873. The vast park is home to about 4,000 pine trees, and has been selected as one of Japan's 100 most famous pine trees. The rose garden, covering an area of about 2.7 hectares, was completed in 1991 as part of the Osaka Prefecture's "Flowering Osaka Project." It is a tasteful garden with five zones, such as "Lake and Waterway View," "Village View," and "Mountain View," which are reminiscent of Japanese strolling gardens, as well as promenades and a "City View" reminiscent of European gardens. About 6,000 roses of 500 varieties, including wild roses and Japanese roses, which have been native to Japan since ancient times, bloom from spring to early winter. The park is open from March to December every year. Admission is free. Guided tours of the roses are available only in the spring and autumn seasons by the volunteer group "Rose Garden Guide Club."
