Footwear wholesale district

Hakihaki Town is known nationwide alongside Hanakawado in Asakusa. It is home to around 100 stores selling sandals, zori sandals, bags, umbrellas and other accessories.

This footwear wholesale district is located in the Nihonbashi East area of Naniwa Ward. Along the 400m long street, there are about 100 stores selling sandals, zori and other footwear, as well as accessories such as bags and umbrellas (some stores are open to the general public). This area, full of old-fashioned charm, is affectionately known as "Hakihaki Town" and is known nationwide, along with Hanakawado in Asakusa. In the early Taisho period, there were many geta craftsmen in the Kita-Nichitocho area, and they started selling Daishi sandals on the 21st of each month, the day of the Daishi market. Sales were relatively good, so they began to manufacture and sell them in small shops from that time, and the area began to develop. In particular, after the footwear wholesalers on Midosuji were evicted due to road construction, the number of stores rapidly increased, and has continued to grow to the present day.
