Osaka Cathedral St. Mary's Cathedral
A statue of Hosokawa Garasha, who was scattered throughout the Sengoku period, stands here. A Catholic cathedral with beautiful stained glass.
It was built in 1894 as the Cathedral of St. Agnes, but it was destroyed in an air raid. In 1963, it was reborn as Osaka Cathedral St. Mary's Cathedral. Because the site used to be the residence of the Hosokawa daimyo family, there are stone statues of Hosokawa Garasha and Christian daimyo Ukon Takayama in the square in front of the cathedral, and on the wall there is a painting by the late Insho Domoto, ``Mrs. Garasha on her last day.'' ” is listed. Hosokawa Garasha was the third daughter of Mitsuhide Akechi, married Tadaoki Hosokawa, and was baptized as a Christian. During the Battle of Sekigahara, he refused to enter Osaka Castle as a hostage and committed suicide. Meanwhile, Takayama Ukon, the lord of Takatsuki, adhered to the forbidden faith in Christ and was exiled to Manila. The cathedral's approximately 100 stained glass windows depict the lives of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary. The sound of the pipe organ, which has 2,400 pipes, is also wonderful.
