Behind Namba

A city is a living and moving thing. Osaka's downtown area, Minami, also has popular areas that change with the times, such as Amerikamura and Minamisenba. Since around 2010, Ura Namba has become popular as a drinking spot. The area extends from Sennichimae in the north, Nansan Street in the south, Kuromon Market in the east, and Takashimaya in the west. It is said to be ``Ura-Namba,'' where there are many unique shops run by young shopkeepers, and where the food is cheap and delicious. One of its features is that it is home to a wide variety of standing bar businesses. Tachinomi, which until recently was reserved for older men, is popular among young people and women as it is both casual and fashionable. In Ura Namba, barging sake is commonplace. A fun way to walk is to have a drink, go to the next bar, and then walk to a few more bars. There are over 100 restaurants of various genres, including Japanese, Western, and Chinese, so the way to play is to eat, drink, and make friends with the friendly staff and customers. By the way, ``Ura Namba'' was named by the shop owners in the area.
