Food samples have now become one of Japan's leading tourist souvenirs. Japanese food samples are so elaborately made that foreign tourists who see them for the first time may be fooled into thinking they are real food. The samples, created by craftsmen using wax with soul and dedication, are the only food sculptures in the world. Sennichimae Doguyasuji Shopping Street is home to four shops that specialize in such food samples. When you enter the store, you'll feel like you've wandered into a food wonderland straight out of a fairy tale, with sushi, cakes, udon, takoyaki, and various fruits on display. ``Design Pocket'' in the shopping district also offers a food sample making experience, and if there are spaces available, walk-ins will be accepted.
