Kuromon Market
Nihonbashi is close to the downtown area of Minami. Approximately 150 stores are lined up under the 580m long arcade. It has everything from fresh fish to fruits and processed foods, and has been called ``Osaka's kitchen'' and ``Osaka's stomach.'' It began in the late Edo period, when merchants brought fish to buy and sell fish around Enmyoji Temple, which was located in this area. The name Kuromon Market was derived from the fact that Enmyoji Temple had a black Sanmon gate. The temple and gate were burnt down during the Meiji period, but it became an official market in 1901. During the Showa era, the restaurant was very busy all day long, with chefs coming in early in the morning, general shoppers coming in until around 3:00 pm, and chefs from restaurants after that. Ta. Especially at the end of the year, it is crowded with shoppers preparing for the New Year. This is where you can have a whole blowfish taken down for a ``tecchiri'' hotpot at home, or buy ingredients for osechi ryori. Furthermore, it has recently become very popular among foreign tourists. You can casually enjoy sushi, seafood bowls, tempura bowls, and more at the eat-in corner. There are also skewered meats and fish, making it a food paradise. ●Inquiries/Kuromon Market Shopping District Promotion Association Phone: 06-6631-0007
