Shinshu Otani School Komyozan Gantokuji Temple

This temple is connected to Rennyo Shonin, who devoted his life to propagating Buddhism. You can feel the weight of history in the stately building.
Gantokuji Temple is said to have its origins as a Nenbutsu dojo opened in Kadoma by Rennyo Shonin, the eighth head of Honganji Temple, at the end of the 15th century. In the latter half of the 16th century, Rennyo's 10th son, Kenshunjitsugo, took over the dojo and it became known as Gantokuji. The tile-roofed main hall, which is said to have been rebuilt in 1665, the gabled bell tower built in the early Edo period, and the Sanmon gate, which was built in the mid-17th century, are cultural properties of Osaka Prefecture, and the entrance, guest room, shoin, and drum tower. (Taikoro) are each registered tangible cultural properties of the country. The 4,700 square meter site is home to large camphor trees, which are designated as preserved trees by Kadoma City.
