Kazui Temple
The place name Fujiidera originates from this temple. If you worship the Senju Kannon, a national treasure, you will receive 46,000 days worth of blessings.
This ancient temple is the origin of the place name Fujiidera, and is the fifth temple in the Saigoku Sacred Sites. It is said that it was built around the 7th century as a family temple for the Muraji clan, descendants of the Baekje Wani clan. The principal image, Senju Kannon, is a national treasure with a thousand hands and a thousand eyes. Senju Kannon is said to be the only one with more than 1000 hands, and actually has 1041 hands. The 18th of every month is the festival day (admission fee: 500 yen), and is said to be a particularly beneficial day. There is also a flag-hanging pine (Mikoto-no-matsu) in the precincts, which is associated with Masashige Kusunoki. When Masashige Kusunoki visited this temple to pray for victory in battle, he made his three sons swear, ``Like this pine needle, we will unite and strive for Bushido,'' which is why the three-leafed pine tree was named after this pine tree. There is a legend that holding it will give you strength.
